The Imus Fire Department trained our teachers and administrators on what to do during fire and earthquake.

After the training, they came up with the following training materials. All AJV teachers, administrators, teachers, employees and students attended the drill on August 14, 2015.

‘‘Shake out! Don’t Freak OUT!”

Objectives

  • Define drill exercise.
  • Know the importance of earthquake and fire drill.
  • Explain the importance of being prepared.
  • Know what to do in case of earthquake and fire.
  • Demonstrate the drill.

What is a Drill?

It is an exercise practicing the evacuation of a building for a fire, earthquake or other emergency.
A way for us to be PREPARED in case of fire or earthquake.

Why do we need to be PREPARED?

We need to be prepared to. . .

  • Know what to do, where to go, and how to respond in case of earthquake or fire.
  • Be SAFE.
  • Avoid casualties.

EARTHQUAKE

Earthquakes are the rumblings, shaking or rolling of the earth’s surface.

It is usually what happens when two blocks of the earth suddenly slip past one another, or break apart from each other as a result of tension caused by prolonged energy build up.

What to do when there is Earthquake?

Phase 1: ALARM

  • Earthquake shaking warning is given for one minute.
  • This will be a pre-arranged signal such as siren/bell which is known to whole school.
When you hear the alarm.

DON’T PANIC.

Phase 2: RESPONSE

Shake_Out

If outside go away from tall buildings or walls.

Phase 3: EVACUATION

Once the “shaking” stops, teachers and students should check the building damage and take decision to evacuate the building following proper evacuation procedures.

EVACUATION PROCEDURE

1. Students will line up in any order and go to the assigned evacuation area.

EVACUATION AREA: VACANT LOT BESIDE AJV.

2. Teachers should be the last one to go out of the building.

Phase 4: ASSEMBLY

Whole school Staff /teachers/ students will assemble as per their class at the pre determined assembly point.

Phase 5: HEADCOUNT

1. Teachers/advisers will take the attendance and check with daily attendance sheet.
2. Make sure everyone is accounted for.

If there is someone missing activate the search and rescue team /first aid team.

Phase 6: EVALUATION

An evaluation of the drill must be conducted to identify problems encountered during the drill and how this can be corrected in future drills.

FIRE

What to do when there is FIRE?

Phase 1: ALARM

  • Continuous alarm until the fire is out.
  • This will be a pre-arranged signal such as siren/bell which is known to whole school.

Phase 2: RESPONSE

  • Don’t panic.
  • Take the evacuation in a calm orderly manner, leaving all personal belongings behind.

Phase 3: EVACUATION

  • The students will line up and walk quickly to the assembly point, led by their teacher.

The students are expected to follow any instructions given to them by the staff.

  • Teachers should be the last one to go out of the building.
